The image of sitting on your back porch and looking out over the gorgeous Western North Carolina mountains at sunset is a beautiful site. It’s the end result of building a custom home in the mountains – but what about the journey to get there? Building a home in the Blue Ridge Mountains can be a little challenging, although the challenge is certainly worth the results.

Building in the Mountains

Mountain homes typically come up against two types of challenges. The first is that the conditions in high-elevation, mountainous regions can be harsh at times. That’s why it is essential to find the most cost-effective and durable material for your site. The second reason is that the land will have to be adjusted, whether that’s through excavation or retaining walls. We try to do this in a way that is harmonious with the environment while still providing proper building ground. Even then, the home will need to be carefully designed around the layout of the land.

From Vision to Reality

Our goal is to build beautiful mountain homes for our clients that fit seamlessly into the surroundings and creates a smooth transition from the outside in. To address the challenges of building in the mountains, we carefully inspect a property to fully understand the land. Doing so also helps us determine which materials will be the most sustainable and resilient while remaining within the client’s budget. While walking the land, we keep the client’s vision front and center and evaluate how we can work with the land to make the vision possible.

After doing the preliminary work, we will be on the way to crafting your artisan mountain home that will last for many years to come!
