RANDY AND MARCY GODFREY OF ATLANTA ARE THE PICTURE-PERFECT COUPLE. ATTRACTIVE. BRIGHT. MOVERS AND SHAKERS IN THE ARENAS OF FINANCE AND FAMILY MATTERS. WITH HEAVY SCHEDULES.

Family and community responsibilities. A myriad of commitments. How do they catch their breath in this fast-paced, achievement-oriented world? Simple. With their own private slice-of-heaven getaway at The Cliffs at Keowee Vineyard, S.C.

Life has been good to Randy and Marcy Godfrey. Still in their late 40s, the college sweethearts met at Abilene (Tex.) Christian University where THEY EARNED MBA degrees, married and set off on a 26-year adventure that’s earned them the best of life’s treasures: family, friends, community and a spectacular career. It’s a fast-paced existence.

Based in Atlanta, Randy is a senior national sales director of Primerica, a financial subsidiary of Citigroup. Marcy is the ultimate volunteer mom and Southern hostess who, in one week, entertained 160 at a picnic, 100 at a luncheon and 75 at daughter Jessica’s graduation party.

To balance all that activity, the Godfreys have created the ultimate place to relax:
Their spectacular stone and shingle lake home set on 3.5 acres at The Cliffs at Keowee Vineyards, S.C. “We love the mountains and we wanted a second home that was in a mountain setting but still warm.
My vision was to create a lake lodge for family entertaining, business entertaining, our ministry
and charity works, as well as a place for retreats and leadership conferences,” says Randy, noting that the family is “very devout in our faith. Already, we’ve used the house for a training retreat for 24 youth ministers.

“Foremost, it’s a retreat center for the immediate family, our future grandkids and for generations.” That group includes the couple’s children: Scott, 21, a junior at Auburn; Jessica, 18, an incoming freshman in the same university’s highly ranked interior design department; Meredith, a 16- year-old high school sophomore; and both sets of grandparents.

The Godfreys’ dream lodge was a long time coming.
They looked at lake property for more than a year. The search was complicated because the couple had very specific requirements.

“We wanted a location no more than two hours’ drive from home,” Marcy recalls, “and we preferred a power company lake to an Army Corps [of Engineers] lake, which can drop 25 feet during the winter.”

“We were also looking for a recreational lake with no rules about powerboats and so forth,” Randy adds, .... . a lake we could enjoy with the kids and grandkids.”
Grandkids, though not yet an actuality, are something Randy mentions often.
“Our whole vision includes grandkids,” he says. That’s not a big leap for a couple who operate the house of choice for their children and children’s friends both in Georgia and Keowee. The adults relish the youngsters, all of whom attended

Small sanctuary One of the homes many gathering spots, the screened porch offers a lake view, eating area with partial kitchen and high-beamed ceiling.
Set the Mood. Moss-covered grapevine benches surround the stone terrace and fire pit overlooking the Godfrey’s private cove.
Rustic beauty Crossbeams, glass surround the stone terrace and fire pit overlooking the and a modified pergola add to a lakefront gable.
