fter a year-and-a-half of scouting the ideal location for a getaway spot,
a Florida couple finally found it at a Lake Keowee development. "It had
a combi-nation of everything we were looking for," said one of the owners.
"It was early in the development phase, so we were fortunate to choose one
of the better lots."
Indeed, the property is situated on at least an acre that is partially
wooded with

resembling a small peninsula. The property overlooks a 25-mile lake,
the signature No. 17 hole on the golf course, the South Carolina foothills,
and the forests of the Keowee/ Toxaway State Park.
While visiting their property, the couple met with an architect over lunch
who—while they were talking about their ideas for a home—sketched their
dream place on a napkin. "He specializes in the Country French Chateau
look, and that's

what
we were looking for," said one of the owners. "We told him it would
be nice for the house to look as if it were the original home on the lake.
And we told him we wanted a home with stone, slate, and wood."
The owners also wanted the home to reflect the rustic, mountainous area—a departure from their 15,000-square-foot Mediterranean-style stucco home
with tile roof that they live in year-round at the beach on Sanibel Island,
Florida.
